Training the Brain

Learn the basics of brain-based learning.
The ability of the brain to rewire and remap itself by means of neuroplasticiity is profound.  The new Journal of Neuroplasticity explores these and related issues.  Schools can influence this process and build student success through skill-building, reading, meditation, the arts, career and technical education, and thinking skills.  Neuroscientists Michael Merzenich and Paula Tallal verified that "when the correct skill-building protocol is used, educators can make positive and significant changes in our brains in a short period of time."  Without understanding the "rules of how our brain changes, educators can waste time and money, and students will fall through the cracks."
Many of the students that I have seen over the years have said that they would study hard for a test or spend an extended period of time in completing homework assignments to then only end in failure. These students were not dumb, nor did they lack intelligence, but their struggle with school work would make then believe otherwise.
The problem I found, was that they lacked the understanding of how they learn in relation to how their brain learns.  When the students were taught how to learn based upon how their brain learns, they were able to start improving their comprehension skills in a very short period of time.
